TEDxHilversum is produced by a whole team. Our lead producer is Jacklin Goverde, who recently joined. She is now working on the event management and event planning for 12 November. Before that, she organises the kick-off meeting with all volunteers managers and the event partners. All with the same goal: giving a stage to the speakers to share stories, from Hilversum out to all over the world. Jacklin feels that everybody who puts effort in organising TEDxHilversum is part of the team. Therefore, in her opinion, the TEDxHilversum team is her team, together with their support at home and the sponsors that are helping making TEDxHilversum happen. Plus all the visitors of the event and the online viewers.
Jacklin: ‘For TEDxHilversum I am the Event Producer, but I hope I can assist all the team members where possible. And of course I will take care of coffee, because that is important. Never underestimate the power of getting coffee for each other’- she says and winks.
Jacklin tells us more about herself and the upcoming event:
“What are your thoughts when we mention ‘Attention Please!’, working with media and the brain?”
This way, the media AND our brain can make or break us. That is what statistics, media events and psychologist say. But in the end it never truly can’t.
‘Combining this insight with the fact that I see TED as the organiser of a valuable information stream worldwide by all the TEDTalks, this theme makes TEDxHilversum a perfect event for me to organise.
Although I have never attended a TEDx event before, it feels like I have, because I have watched so many TEDtalks online. Every video and every media event feels like it leaves you with something. Sometimes a story that you hear, some thoughts, a vision or a personal feeling. There is always time to find to watch a short video. Thanks to TED, people worldwide can now enjoy that moment of gratefulness that comes after watching something that impacts your life in one way or another. That is the remarkable power of TED. Without having ever been there, it feels like you did not miss out on the events. I am looking forward to my first real time TEDx experience.’
How do you see ‘media’ in our daily lives?
The difference between feeling depressed and feeling inspired, resides in your brain. But we are always being influenced. Your brain leads a life of its own inside your head. It is interesting that through new digital information streams, peoples’ insights suddenly become visible worldwide. Because of the new media, you can reach the brain of someone else and even influence them. Sometimes in just 140 characters. For me that is super interesting. To see how that works and what we can do with that to create and innovate. I just hope the world will not forget one thing. To just live! Now. Here. There is nothing more than that.’
We ask all people who want to be in the audience, ‘What would make you the perfect TEDxHilversum guest?’ So, Jacklin…
‘Probably everybody who signs up for the event, has their own personal motivation. I like to think that our stories and attending on this specific TEDx event will have real impact. Or at least some impact that reaches further in their lives. It doesn’t have to be big to be remembered.’
’Ideas can become real things or actions. Just look around you with an open mind. It is that simple, but sometimes also hard at the same time. That is why we all can use a moment of self-reflection sometimes. As I hope for the people I come across in my life, that in a natural way our encounter inspired a moment of self-reflection. That maybe something in our encounter gave them a sense of reflection and recognition.’
Jacklin works as a freelancer in communications, PR, event- and mediaproduction. She produces, creates and manages long and short term assignments – both with full attention to goals, deadlines and to-do lists, always paying close attention to the smallest details and to the people. Her company: Is al geregeld!
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxHilversum, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxHilversum event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
